My first post-graduate role was in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A as an assistant designer at Abercrombie & Fitch. Within a year I was promoted to Associate Designer. I worked on the Men’s Graphic T-shirts team. Our role extended beyond designing just t-shirts. We also had to work closely with the R&D centre to develop and pioneer new printing techniques and washes not seen anywhere else. These would in turn then be presented to the other teams and brands (Hollister, Ruehl, Gilly Hicks) to be used by them. We also worked on the premium line of t-shirts that we personally finished by hand to be retailed in the flagship stores.
