A bit about me…

I am a multi-product designer with experience of working with international brands and retailers ranging from big to small, from the well established to the up and coming.  I have a keen eye for colour and an extensive knowledge of textiles and washes.  I combine these with graphic design and an understanding of the importance of brand identity to design definitive and aspirational collections.

…and some more about me

I began my career in Macclesfield, UK working in a bridal boutique. I went on to study Fashion at Manchester Metropolitan University and secured a role as assistant designer at Abercrombie & Fitch in Columbus, OH USA prior to graduation. My time at Abercrombie & Fitch was hugely informative and gave me a great understanding of branding and brand identity. After 12 months I was promoted to the position of associate designer and then a few months after that I decided it was time for a new challenge.

That challenge was back in the UK at Superdry. A rapidly growing brand that had recently started to grab attention and gain traction on the high street after being modelled by David Beckham in several adverts and calendars. I joined a modest team of four designers that sat together on a mezzanine over a warehouse on an industrial estate. After 24 months we had contributed to making Superdry a massive apparel brand and a huge success when it floated on the stock market in 2010.

In 2012 it was time for me to move on to another big challenge. Once again it was outside of the UK, this time in Paris, France at Le Coq Sportif: a true heritage brand that had been established for over 130 years and still had design contributions from relatives of M. Camuset who founded the company. I had a fantastic opportunity to learn a new language from practically knowing none of it and I also got to work on categories of clothing that I had not previously worked on. These included performance sportswear and outerwear. The apparel side of the business was re-launching and it was great to be a part of the team that achieved great success in that re-launch. I was responsible for collaboration collections and worked on designs for professional sporting institutions and events along with the premium Coq d’Or collection.

After 2.5 years in France I moved back to the UK to Manchester. I took the role as Brand Designer of Menswear at A.M London. The menswear department was launched after the women’s side of the brand had been established and received a good response from buyers. Being the sole designer at its launch and working with 1 merchandiser and 1 garment technologist, I was tasked with launching the brand and did everything from seasonal concepts to collection design, tech packs, right through to photoshoots and lookbook designs and their production. After 2 enjoyable seasons I left the company to freelance.

Over several months I worked freelance designing graphics for bands and clothing brands. One particular client was iTex for whom I did a lot of garment and graphic design. Their clients included many Football and Rugby teams and the briefs were to design fan wear, something I enjoy a lot.

In April 2016 I went back in to full time employment as the menswear designer at Native Youth. Similar to A.M London I was the sole menswear designer working with 1 merchandiser and 1 garment technologist however there was a dedicated e-commerce, sales and social media team. I was involved with photoshoots, lookbooks and everything beyond just doing tech packs. The role required a lot of travel for research and sourcing in the Far East and was a great experience for establishing new professional partnerships. During my time as Senior Designer I expanded the branded and graphic side of the brand along with introducing more sustainable fabrications to the collections.

My next role was Senior Designer at Golden Equation. This was an exciting prospect as the owner had decided to re-launch the brand and bring it more in line with the styling of premium streetwear. The challenge was to elevate the aesthetic of the brand and attract new customers whilst retaining the existing ones. This has been achieved by adding new graphic collections alongside mainline seasonal collections and another range that caters more for the existing customers - all of these fit together as cohesive collections that sit together perfectly.
